Fitness for Kids Challenge
The Girl Scouts of Western New York are pleased to partner with the Independent Health Foundation for the Fitness for Kids Challenge.
The Fitness for Kids Challenge encourages every child age 14 years and younger to increase their physical activity and good nutrition by improving healthy habits. For every 12 activities completed, the childs name is entered into monthly and grand prize drawings.

Fall Clothing Drives
The Girl Scouts of Western New York is proud to be a part of two terrific clothing drives, PJ Round Up in the Rochester, Batavia, Lockport and Buffalo areas and Keep Them Warm in the Jamestown area. Participation in these activities is a great example of how local Girl Scouts give back to the community and make Western New York a better place.

Keep Them Warm
November 1 - November 30, 2008

Girl Scout troops in Cattaraugus and Chautauqua Counties and Community Bank, N.A. are partnering to provide new winter hats, scarves and gloves to women and children who have been displaced from their homes. Together we can make their world a little warmer.

Drop off donations at one of the Community Bank, N.A. locations listed below or the Girl Scout Service Center at 2661 Horton Road from November 1–November 21.

PJ Round Up
November 1 - November 30, 2008

Girl Scout troops will team up with The Summit Federal Credit Union to help women and children in need by participating in the PJ Round Up. This community service project will provide donations of warm pajamas, slippers, and robes for women and children living in homeless shelters, battered shelters, or transitional housing. Girl Scout troops can earn a badge for this community service project.

Last year's PJ Round Up collected 3,500 articles of clothing for women and children and this year's goal is to collect over 4,000. A PJ Round-Up patch will be available for purchase by participants.

What to Collect:
New pj’s, nightgowns, slippers, and robes in women’s, girl’s, and boy’s sizes.

SHARE Campaign Seeks Artists — Deadline Extended to November 21!
It’s time to design a patch for the council’s family partnership campaign. Please help to create a new SHARE patch! SHARE stands for Show Her A Real Experience and refers to the family partnership portion of the annual giving campaign. SHARE, is a joint effort between Girl Scout families and Girl Scouts of Western New York to provide valuable program experiences for approximately 25,000 girls served by the council. Gifts through SHARE are voluntary, tax-deductible contributions.

Hockey Night at Niagara University
Saturday, December 6th at 4 p.m.
Niagara University Athletics, in conjunction with the Girl Scouts of Western New York, Inc. would like to invite your troop and their families to our first annual Girl Scout Family Hockey Night on December 6! The Purple Eagles Women’s Hockey team takes on Wayne State at 4 p.m., in an exciting match up at Dwyer Arena! All Girl Scouts in attendance will have an opportunity to participate in a special post-game skate and autograph session with the Purple Eagles following the game.

For Girl Scout Cadettes
This one-hour workshop is provided by Pamela Spiteri, Director of Drama Kids International of Rochester. Girls will experience:
Belt It Out: Practice projecting your voice.
How You Say It: Express different emotions, saying "I did it" with pride, fear, happiness and surprise.
Mirror Mimic: In pairs, one person leads and the other person mimics.
Improv Skills: Learn how to think quickly on your feet in the games "What are you doing?" and "Flipping the Station".
Character Traits: Read a play then identify the lead character, the supporting characters and extras. Choose a character and show that you understand the character by describing their personality, behavior and what other people think of the character.

Harlem Globetrotters
The Harlem Globetrotters invite the Girl Scouts of Western New York, Inc. to join them in Rochester on February 6 or in Buffalo on February 7. Enter the doors early to attend the pre-game session of Globetrotter University, promoting healthy lifestyles through the S.P.I.N. (Some Playtime is Necessary) program. Making It Matter Workshop

Nature's Classrooom—The Sand—The Sea–The History
This amazing trip June 26-29 features a Marine Life Cruise and visits to the Cape Cod Museum of Natural History, Salem Witch Museum, Plymouth Plantation, New England Aquarium and Quincy Market. Girl Scouts will be immersed in the rich history of New England and explore the areas aquatic ecosystem on this fun and educational trip.
