Girl Scout Volunteers can't wait to teach girls something new. They get excited about showing a girl what's possible and helping her shine. Are you ready to make a lasting impact on a girl's life?

Volunteering with the Girl Scouts is what you make it! There are endless, flexible ways to participate, from being a weekly troop leader to serving as a mentor to girls to helping at a one-time event and everything in between. Our volunteers believe in girls and represent the world we live in — that means women, men, young adults, senior citizens and people of all racial and ethnic backgrounds.

Current volunteer opportunities are listed on our online activity list. Our volunteer screening process includes the following steps.

1. Volunteer Application

To be considered as a volunteer, we need to get to know you a little bit. This application helps us learn answers to important questions such as how we can reach you, what you are most interested in, what your availaibility is, and more. Click here to complete the volunteer application.

2. Background Check

The safety and security of the girls we serve is of the utmost importance for Girl Scouts of Western New York. Therefore, each volunteer must provide information for a background check. We value the privacy of personal information and make great efforts to ensure that information is handled appropriately. Thank you for keeping our girls safe.

Background checks cost $6.00 per person and are performed by Verified Volunteers. You will need to set up an account on the Verified Volunteers website; this is not connected to the username and password you used to complete the online application. When completing either form, please use the identical first and last name as on your application.

If you are a current or former resident of Orleans County, click here to perform the background check.

All residents of all other counties may perform the background check through one of the following links:

  • If you are able to pay the $6.00 fee, click here.
  • If you would prefer GSWNY pay some or all of the $6.00 fee, click here.

3. Short Phone Interview

Phone interviews typically last 5 to 15 minutes. They provide us with an opportunity to ask questions based on your application and get to know you a little better so that we may match you to the opportunity that is best fit.

Thank you for considering volunteering for Girl Scouts of Western New York! We're excited to match your interests and expertise to a fun and rewarding volunteering experience that will benefit girls and young women.
