For New Troop Volunteers

Step 1: Once you have submitted your application, references and background check, complete GSUSA’s Girl Scouting 101.  This course will give you an orientation to the organization, information on being an effective leader, and information on programming for your girls’ grade level.  You can find the course on GSUSA’s website here: http://training.girlscouts.org/  Just use the password “aboutGS101." You will be prompted to enter your contact information. Be sure to choose our council, Western New York, so that we will be notified when you’ve completed the course.

Step 2: Attend Troop Essentials- this orientation gives you an overview of Girl Scouts of Western New York policies and procedures and everything you need to know to get your troop up and running.  Contact your Membership Manager for the facilitator for your area.

For Volunteers Changing Levels

Visit GSUSA's Girl Scouting 101 to check out specific information on grade-level behaviors, management, and program options.  You will not need to view the entire class, but if you have not taken basic leadership training in several years, you would likely benefit from watching the entire course.  The entire course takes approximately 45 minutes.

Step One: You can find the course on GSUSA’s website here: http://training.girlscouts.org/  Just use the password “aboutGS101."  Fill in your contact information to enter the course.

Step Two:  In the left-hand toolbar, click on "Ages and Stages: What Girl Scouts are Like."  Select the appropriate grade level to learn more about girls at this age.

Step Three:  You will receive a completion email within 1 week.
