Service Unit Camp Out Trainings

Service Unit Camp Out trainings are no longer scheduled council-wide. To better meet the needs of our volunteers, these trainings are now scheduled on individual basis. The Adult Development department will connect service units with SUCO facilitators, who will work with you to arrange a convenient time and place.  Please read the course descriptions below to determine your needs, and email training@gswny.org with your name, service unit, and contact information so that we may begin the process.

Service Unit Camp Out (SUCO) training

To provide the best outdoor experience for our girls and volunteers, specific training is offered for those planning a Service Unit Camp Out. A Service Unit Camp oOt is considered an event that takes place one to two nights with 50 or more participants on the same site. Service Unit Camp Outs cannot exceed 72 hours per New York State Department of Health. If your service unit is planning an event the Service Unit Camp out, the director, along with her team (asst director, site director, program director and treasurer), must complete Service Unit Camp Out training. Service Unit Camp Out directors doing this for the first time are encouraged to take the training at least one year ahead of time.

Adult training requirements: As per the Girl Scouts of Western New York, Inc. Policies and Procedures, service unit camp out directors and members of their core staff are required to take appropriate training offered by the council. Service unit camp out directors must remain on site during the entire event/weekend.

Service Unit Camp Out training is valid for five years after the training was taken.

For up to 100 participants, there must be two adults who have taken SUCO training within five years prior to the event involved in the planning of the SUCO and who will remain on site for the entire event/weekend. Another trained adult is required for each additional 100 participants.

  • 101-200 participants – 3 trained adults
  • 201-300 participants – 4 trained adults
  • 301-400 participants – 5 trained adults
