Back to School with GSWNY-U

This premiere adult learning event is designed to help U learn what’s new for this Girl Scout year, grow as a volunteer, and have fun! There is one remaining GSWNY-U session scheduled:

  • Saturday, November 1 at West Seneca East High School, Erie County (4760 Seneca Street, West Seneca, 14424)

2014 WORKSHOP OPTIONS

American Red Cross First Aid, AED & CPR – blended learning: The American Red Cross-blended learning class combines a pre-session online portion (approx. 3 hours) with an in-person skills session (approx. 1-and-a-half hours). This class includes adult and child CPR, AED and first aid with two-year certifications. Class size is limited. Note: The online portion requires a computer with speakers and streaming video capabilities. There is an additional cost of $20 per person, which will be brought to the training.

Be a Super SUM: What makes a great SUM? Designed for round table sharing, new and veteran SUMs can share obstacles, triumphs, and what works and what doesn’t.

Ceremonies 1 and Ceremonies 2: Ceremonies 1 is perfect for newer leaders. This class covers Girl Scout ceremony basics: investiture, flag ceremonies, court of awards, and bridging. Ceremonies 2 covers leader appreciation, Bronze or Silver presentations, Thinking and Founders days, flag retirement, and other unique ceremonies.

Building Smart Cookies from Scratch: Learn about all the new and exciting GSLE program ties to the Girl Scout cookie program, including discovering the world of the digital cookie, connecting with customers through revolutionary selling techniques, and Taking Action in your community with community drive thrus.

Facilitating Adult Learners: Are you interested in being a Girl Scout facilitator? Training adults takes a special set of skills – learn more about teaching and engaging other volunteers.

Getting Started with Daisy or Brownie Girl Scouts: Get tips and tricks from veteran leaders. Everything from working with parents to service project ideas to behavior management to craft ideas.

Going For the Gold! Girls not sure if they want to take on the Gold Award? Confused about how to help them?  Designed for troop leaders, this class will give you an overview of the Gold Award and its requirements. This is not the Gold Award training for girls, but one where you can learn how to encourage your girls to reach for the Gold. Great for volunteers who happen to be parents of Senior and Ambassador girls, too!

GSLE Coach: Do you like mentoring new volunteers? Have you helped other volunteers navigate the Journeys? Then you might be a perfect GSLE Coach! GSLE Coaches work within the service unit to support leaders. No expertise required – we’ll teach you everything you need to know.

Leave No Trace:  Learn how to enjoy the outdoors with minimal impact. Fun activities to teach your girls environmental ethics with badge/Journey tie-ins.

New Leader 101: You’ve got questions, we’ve got answers! Designed to help calm any new leader jitters, this Q&A-focused class will answer your most burning questions.

Planning SU Events: This class is designed with SUMs and SU Event Planners in mind. Designed for round table sharing, this is a chance to collect new ideas AND share your success stories.

Ready-to-Go Program: Did you know GSWNY has a number of ready-to-go program boxes for rental? This class will provide an overview of all the options, plus give you a chance to try out what’s in them.

Songs: Girl Scouts isn’t complete without songs! Learn old favorites and new songs to mark occasions, spice up meetings, and make everything more fun.

Teambuilding 1 & 2: Games to teach groups of girls or adults how to work together. Teambuilding 1 is the same class as 2013; Teambuilding 2 contains all new games and no overlap. This class features facilitators from our ropes courses.

Travel Pathway: Learn how to plan an extended trip with your troop utilizing the Girl Scout Leadership Experience. Selecting a destination, budgeting, money-earning, working with a travel vendor, and more.
