Leadership Speaker Series with Judy Smith
Girl Scouts of Western New York welcomed approximately 200 guests to the Leadership Speaker Series on Thursday, September 26, 2013, at Kleinhans Music Hall in Buffalo. Judy Smith, America’s #1 crisis management expert, gave the keynote address. Kendra Eaglin, reporter with WKBW, served as the mistress of ceremony.
Other speakers were: Judy Maness, chair of the board of directors for Girl Scouts of Western New York, Sundra Ryce, chair of the event committee; Cindy Odom, chief executive officer of Girl Scouts of Western New York; and Girl Scout Cheyenne Zaremba, who shared how Girl Scouts has impacted her life. Deputy Mayor Dr. Ellen Grant was present to give a proclamation from the City of Buffalo, which named September 26, 2013, Judy Smith Day in Buffalo.
Having worked as the White House Deputy Press Secretary and consulted for a number of high-profile celebrities and Fortune 500 companies, Smith shared stories about some of her experiences with the world’s top leaders, showing that even though she interacts with many top officials, she and her clients are all people just like us.
She shared her own story about her career path, and, among other advice, she encouraged youth to be themselves, not just to be what you think others what you to be. As the co-executive producer and inspiration for the ABC television drama Scandal, Smith answered questions about the show. A VIP reception and book signing were held prior to the start of the event.
This event was made possible by the event sponsors and the event host committee.
