Established in 1963, Camp Timbercrest originally served the "Chautauqua Area Girl Scouts" as a Day Camp facility.

On June 27, 1967, Esther Keyser, camp director and executive director of the Chautauqua Area Girl Scout Council, dedicated the Residence Camp with these words:

This will be a place where the Girl Scout promise, the principals of honor, loyalty, duty will be held in high esteem. This will be a place where wise and dedicated leaders will help girls grow into good citizens.

This camp is dedicated to the objectives of Girl Scouting that girls may here be inspired to the highest ideals of character, conduct and purpose, that they may become happy and useful citizens in their homes, their communities and their country, and that the camp may always be a place of laughter, a place of learning and a place of love.

​Priscilla Fairbank, speaking on behalf of the camp staff and girls of Girl Scouting added these words:

Are you thinking what I am about this intriguing landscape that surrounds us? On these precious acres untold experiences will be had by many girls. There will be trials and tribulations; there will be times for thrills, for inspiration, for that soul-lifting satisfaction of accomplishment, for pure joy of living, for friends and for many more of the feelings and experiences that help mold girls into the young women of our communities and the mothers of the next generation.

Today, Camp Timbercrest serves the Girl Scouts of Western New York, a council that spans nine counties:  Chautauqua, Cattaraugus, Erie, Wyoming, Livingston, Niagara, Orleans, Genesee, and Monroe.
