Troops must have an adult with current First Aid/CPR training accompany them on troop activities outside of their usual meeting place.
Certain healthcare providers can serve as First Aiders; these are physicians, physician’s assistants (PAs), nurse practitioners, registered nurses, licensed practical nurses, paramedics, military medics, and EMTs (Emergency Medical Technicians).
GSWNY is once again partnering with EPIC Trainings to assist our volunteers in securing their required First Aid and CPR trainings. EPIC currently offers our volunteers a blended course, part online and part in-person. Their Blended First Aid/CPR Course gives the learner the flexibility of training using an online course accessible from any internet device – laptops, tablets, cell phones. User-friendly, it allows students to work at their own pace with the ability to start and stop the course at will. When the course material is completed a short multiple choice test is required. The at-home portion is then followed by an in-person hands-on skills assessment, required to complete certification; these skills assessments last approximately 10 minutes per student.
This year EPIC will be offering Skills Sessions weekly in Rochester and Bi-weekly in Buffalo. This will allow Epic to serve clients more quickly. The schedule of sessions will be provided upon registration.
Rochester Sessions will be held at the Irondequoit Public Library 1290 Titus Ave, Rochester, NY 14617
Buffalo Sessions will be held at the Clarence Library, Three Town Place, Clarence, NY 14031
Training links are emailed to students after paid registration. Students are then given 30 days to complete the online portion, then 30 days after that to complete the skills session. They are welcome to attend any skills session that works best for them. Another bonus of students going to EPIC’s facilities is it allows completion of the course more quickly if needed - A student can receive the links today, finish the course tomorrow and attend Saturdays skills session.
These standard First Aid and CPR courses include adult and child CPR and Basic First Aid; certification is valid for 2 years. EPIC offers the courses at a special rate to Girl Scout volunteers.
· Blended Learning Sessions: $45.00
