NEW HANDS-ON OUTDOOR SKILLS TRAINING FOR ADULTS!

THIS JUST IN!

The GSUSA Safety Activity Checkpoints for 2019/2020 now requires that at least one adult per group be trained by their council prior to a troop-run camping event.

But don’t worry, we’ve got you covered! To meet this training requirement, volunteers can do one of two things (or both if you want!)

A) Review the Troop Camping in 10 Easy Steps online at (PDF). When applying for a GSWNY campsite or submitting a Troop Camping on a Non-Council Owned Site Form, you will indicate that you have fulfilled this requirement. This indication will be “on your honor” and will not require documentation.

B) For additional resources and hands-on training, we are excited to announce that you can participate in hands-on skills sessions embedded within selected girl outdoor programs (i.e. Ace Adventurer, Read Set Camp, Trailblazer II etc). Attend these events with girls to learn fire building, food preparation, tent-pitching and more – without having to sacrifice additional personal time. Just look for the tent icon next to any program title to find a program that integrates camping training for adults. Adults who wish to participate in the skills sessions at these programs must notify council upon registration for the program. This can be done by clicking on the link provided in your registration confirmation email which will direct you to a skills session sign-up list. Timely registration ensures an accurate quantity of materials and a better program experience. Please understand that these sessions may require adults to work separate from the girls, in groups with other adults. This may include and is not limited to being at a different station or doing a different activity from the girls.

C) A one-sentence bullet point about the Outdoor Champions under both the On-Demand Training and the Outdoor Training drop-down menus. It should read: “Looking for more individualized training fit to your schedule? The Outdoor Champion Volunteer Team is available to help you. Just submit a request by visiting https://www.gswny.org/en/camp/outdoor-like-a-girl-/outdoor-champion.html.”
