Council Delegate Position Description
Qualifications:
1. A registered member, in good standing, of the Girl Scout movement
in the Girl Scouts of Western New York, Inc.
2. Have current knowledge of the Council, your region (county).
3. Committed to the time and interest necessary to carry out the
duties and responsibilities as outlined in the job description.
Term of Office:
1. Council Delegates and Alternate Delegates shall be elected for a
term of three (3) years.
2. Delegates may serve two (2) consecutive terms of three (3) years
or until their successors are elected and assume office.
3. Delegates and Alternates are not eligible for re-election until
one year has passed after the second term.
4. If a vacancy occurs during a term, another Council Delegate or
Alternate Delegate shall be elected to serve for the unexpired term.
Duties & Responsibilities:
1. Represent your region (county) at the Annual Meeting and all
special delegate meetings.
2. Keep current on how to initiate and influence change in Council
policies and procedures.
3. Influence changes in policy and procedures within the Council, as needed.
4. Attend the Annual Meeting to elect:
a. The Officers of the Council;
b. The At-Large-Directors of the Council;
c. The Members of the Council Board Development Committee;
d. The National Council Delegates and Alternates.
5. Determine the general lines of direction for Girl Scouting
locally by receiving and responding to reports of the Board of
Directors and by giving guidance to the Board.
7. Amend the Bylaws as needed.
8. Take all other action requiring membership vote.
9. Attend and participate in in Council meetings and conduct such
other business as may, from time to time, come before the members.
ALTERNATE DELEGATE - POSITION DESCRIPTIONS
Purpose:
To represent the SU as a voting member of the Council in the absence
of the Council Delegate.
Qualifications:
Same as a Council Delegate
Term of Office:
Same as a Council Delegate
Duties and Responsibilities:
1. Keep informed on the Council and Regional (County) activities to
enable the individual to be a knowledgeable substitute.
2. Assume the duties and responsibilities of Council Delegate in the
absence of a Delegate.
